Hello everyone!

I have just returned home from a 5 Day  Personal Development Retreat and I wanted to share with you the 5 pearls of wisdom that I was able to take away from the experience.

Once you read through these, I would absolutely love to hear your thoughts. And don’t forget – if you know of any leaders who might benefit from these key points, be sure to share the post via a simple re-tweet.

Here it goes:

1) I Can Only LEAD Someone As Far As I Can Go

This one really hit me, and it was consistently re-enforced throughout my 5 days in Santa Barbara. It is absolutely critical that as a leader you are in 100% integrity. You cannot ask people to do things that you are not willing to do yourself. This is something that I think is really easy to do, and it’s also something I believe many are guilty of (including myself). One really easy way to stifle your growth and success is to ask people on your team to do things you’ve either never done or simply aren’t willing to do. Leaders always carve a path for their teams. This means going first and showing the way.

2) I TRUST In My Ability To Co-Create

Do you know of anyone  who has to do things themselves in order to ensure they’re being done the ‘RIGHT’ way? Even successful leaders sometimes lack 100% TRUST in their teams. As human beings we are born with the ability to interact with on another and to co-create. Surely you’ve heard the saying ‘Two minds are better than one.’ This is absolutely true – and 5 minds are better than 2. A great leader is able to take those minds, focus them on a common goal and help to co-create a winning formula.

3) My POWER Exists In The Present Moment (**SNAP**)

Read this line out load and follow it with a sharp **SNAP**. Feel the Power in it. Become aware of where your mind is at right now. Are you still humming and hawing over a call you made to a prospect that you ‘messed up’ last week? Are you anticipating your next big meeting or presentation? Really think about this, and try to shift your mind so that you are focused and centred in the PRESENT moment. Use the **SNAP** as an anchor to bring you to the present when you catch yourself drifting off. Awareness is the first step in this – seek to become aware.

4) The Key To CHANGE Lies Within Me

What is your ‘Key To Change’? Go ahead and seriously ask yourself this question. Now, don’t worry to much if the answer doesn’t come to you right away. This will likely require a bit of digging. To give you an example, my key to change is to stop worrying about what others are thinking about me. I need to release my fear of being judged. We’ve all got an internal block that holds us back. Maybe you’ve already been successful in removing this, but for most people there’s still something there. If you are able to clear it however, you’ll be able to realize your true potential. I challenge you to figure out what your key to change is. What’s that one thing preventing you from becoming the success you know you can be? Remember, it’s nothing on the outside of you. The truth is that your inner world IS your outer world.

5) When I Change My FOCUS I Change My Life

Consider the truth in the following: ‘Where my focus goes, energy flows and results show. My focus creates my reality.’ I heard this recently from one of mentors who I met up with in Santa Barbara and I absolutely love it.  I would encourage you to right this one down and put it up somewhere you will see it regularly. It is far to easy to allow our focus to wander. Scattered Focus = Scattered Results. It’s so logical, isn’t it? Figure out the things that distract and the things that help you to focus and create an environment that allows you to focus with ease.

So what are your thoughts? Which of these do you struggle with? What key areas are you successful in? We’ve all got our strengths and our opportunities for growth. If you’ve recently discovered your Key To Change, let us know how you did it. If you find it really challenging to Trust your team and those around you, share that too, and try to figure out Why that is.

That’s all for now! Thanks for visiting. Come back soon.

To Your Success,

Dave

I really got a lot out of this post Dave! Thanks for sharing your insights from your 5 Day Retreat. Wow, 5 Days in Santa Barbara working on Personal Development sounds awesome!

I think Number 3 is jumping out at me the most. I tend to have a hard time trusting other people to do things. I will definitely be sure to be more aware of this in the future.

Looking forward to reading more!
