Perhaps you’ve been in the home-based business industry for 5 years? 10 years? 3 months? 2 weeks? Regardless, you’re being told seemingly by everyone and their sister that you need to start using TECHNOLOGY to grow your business, otherwise you’ll be left in the dust.
So … you’ve got a Facebook account and perhaps a Twitter account too if you’re really fancy. But now, (if you’re like me at all) you find yourself spending a lot of time finicking around with these accounts. You’re finding old friends from high school and university, you’re joining all sorts of groups, Tweeting about your minute-by-minute activities, and quite naturally being sucked in by the ultra-magnetic force of Social Media.
First of all, this is way normal, totally okay, and you’re probably having fun too. And that is what it’s all about.
Except, it’s not ALL about having fun, is it?
Don’t get me wrong – it is important to have fun in life and in your business. I’m all for it.
But you REALLY want to get down to business, don’t you? So, let’s do that. Let’s get down to business!
Let’s get ’serious’
You’ve thought about it long enough … it is time to ‘Get Your Blog On’
You heard me right. It is time to Get Your Blog On! Yee-haw! Woo-hoo! YES!
Drop the Social Networks for just a second. Yup, Facebook too. We’ll come back to that later. First, you need a blog. Now I am not one to make ANY assumptions at all, so just to make sure we’re ALL on the same page, I am going to insert a Wikipedia definition of a blog. (If you’re already a Pro, bear with me…) Here it is:
A blog (a contraction of the term “web log“)[1] is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video.
Got it? Good! Let’s move on. Actually, let’s wait a second. Maybe your questioning this whole notion and you’re wondering why YOU need to have a blog? Especially since your BUSINESS is about selling nutritional products, or telecommunications services or organic cleaning products. How is blogging about all this other stuff going to help me grow my network marketing business?
Here is my answer (not necessarily THE answer). You get paid in this industry by building and LEADING a network of like-minded people who you teach and TRAIN to duplicate exactly what you’re doing. Yes? Good. Now, the people who decide to join you, follow you, and implement the things you teach them all have one thing in common: They know, like and trust you.
Your blog is going to be the place where potential customers and business partners from all over the world can visit in order to develop a relationship with you. It’s a place for you to invite others into YOUR world and SHARE your VALUE with the world.
Now, if you’re like most, you’re already questioning the amount of Value that you have to give. What could you possibly write about that other people could learn from?
Allow me to help you out a little bit. Start by writing down a list of all of your hobbies, interests, PASSIONS, subjects you know lots about, and your BEST personality traits. Ok, don’t just think all these things in your head … write them down … on paper
Now let’s zero in on this a little more. You’ll notice I caps-locked a word in the previous sentence. What are you PASSIONATE about? What do you not stop thinking about? If you had all the money in the world, what would you spend your time doing? THIS is what you want to share with your readers. This is what you want to teach people about.
We’ve all got tons of value to share. By setting up a blog (or what I refer to as the ‘Nucleus’ of my online marketing system) we all people to slowly, over time, get to know, like and eventually trust us (in that order).
That’s going to be it for today. In Part 2 of this series, I will show how to set up you’re blog. But if I’ve really inspired you, and you want to get this going NOW, there are resources all over the place that will take you through everything.
Here’s one of the best places to start. I’m a BIG fan of WordPress. They’ve got a great tutorial on this page that takes you through everything.
In the mean time, you’ll want to continue thinking about some of the information and value you have to share with the world.
Have an awesome day, and an amazing weekend!
Sincerely,
Dave
P.S. If you’re already a blogger, I’d love for you to share your ideas and experiences below so that we can all learn from you. What advice do you have for someone just getting started?
P.P.S. If you’re up to it, share the blogging love with your Twitter followers by clicking the green Retweet button at the top of the page. My hope is that this series of posts helps to motivate all of those networkers who have been putting off blogging and move them into inspired action.

Hey Dave! Great enthusiasm you have in your post.
Ok, here’s my tip:
Get REALLY Clear about what you want. You spoke about passion, that is key.
Blogging is a long term strategy and your home online, so it’s important to start blogging about what resonates inside of you so that you don’t lose interest and run out of things to say.
A blog is just an extension of you and a great way to build relationships.
The next thing is doing research on your niche (yes, we havent started blogging yet!:)
Who is already doing what you want to do? Is there money in your niche? Who are the leaders that you need to be following? What are they doing great and how can you add your own flavor and do it better?
If you are unsure about whether your niche is profitable or not, get onto sites like magazines.com and amazon.com and see if there are related books and magazines.
If you find a magazine on your desired niche, you can almost be 100% sure you have a viable business.
Now, that all depends on your business plan as well and what you want to achieve with your blog.
If you are using it for a home business and you are after lead generation and personal branding for lead generation, then the above won’t be such a big deal of course.
Hope that contributes!

I love your writing style, Dave ~ very natural and infused with energy! I couldn’t agree more with everything you said ~ I can highly recommend a book called The Passion Test for anyone who wants to get REALLY clear on their passions.
And I also agree about the value of a blog as the hub of the relationships you develop ~ I’m new to blogging, but the number of times I’ve sat down with a new prospect and they’ve said “oh yeah, I googled you and….” ~ it just goes to show the power of social media and making sure you are showing up as you want to be seen!
Great Post ~ look forward to Part 2!

Hey Dave!
Great post here on the power of blogging. I agree, the blog is the nucleus of your on-line marketing strategy, the central hub…the mother ship…
Keep up the great work!

What if you have multiple interests/businesses? Even though a lot of the information overlaps, I guess putting it all in the same blog would cater well to neither audience so I should get 2 different blogs going. True? I just feel bad about making the same (or really similar) general posts on two different blogs.
As someone just getting set up with a blog, I’m looking forward to picking up some blogging wisdom from your upcoming posts.

Hi Dave, I really enjoyed your post…a fun & informative read! Thanks for reiterating that PASSION is so important in creating a blog and continuing the journey of internet marketing/blogging. And I like how you said to “write it down”. That has helped me tremendously to clearly see what I love to do, so I can share it with the world! Much appreciation
